Situations Don't Control Me, I Control Me

Today I learned the importance of staying positive during the time when everything could go wrong. Because no matter what you will encounter the negativity. but it's what you do during that time that really shows who you are. You could either choose to be happy that it wasn't worse or you could let that get to you when you have control over your own emotions and that's one thing that the situation doesn't have complete control over.
So this morning I had woken up at 5, but I didn't get out of my bed until 6:30. I got ready in about 30 minutes, yes shower and hair done! I left my house around 7:15 to go to my 7:30 class. The weather was slick and really wet snow. I was driving just fine when I started pulling into this drive way to turn around so I could park up hill, then that's when everything went crazy. I was trying to pull out of the driveway and the road was so slick that I ended up going down hill. Even with the car in reverse it kept sliding down hill towards this truck that was right in front of me. This gentleman saw that I was stuck so he came over to help me. At the same time, I locked myself out unknowingly, I put the car in park to get out and assess the problem and to talk to the guy, He told me to get back in the car and put the car in reverse so I went to do so, but I ended up locking myself out of my car! Yes I locked myself out of my car which was stuck in a snow bank and it was still running.
At this point you'd think I would blow up and get all negative, but before I did I asked myself why I needed to get mad about the situation when that would get me into a bad mood. Instead I chose to laugh at myself and the problem. That definitely helped alleviate the anxieties I would have gotten had I flipped out. It's very empowering when you can set aside the negativity and stick with the positive attitude. Needless to say I eventually got into my car. Thanks to the man who drove back to his house to get a hanger and my sweet friend Ally who came to help me out by bring a hanger too. We had a good laugh together about the whole thing. But I have learned that looking into the positive things instead of the negativity will make your day so much better. I'm sure had I flipped out it would have ruined the rest of my day and it was only 7:30 in the morning! Too early to start a bad day. Because I didn't let the situation control my emotions I had a fabulous day!
